2024’s Top Interior Trends According To A Pro

Header

Every year, new trends come along to inspire and ignite our interiors. Some tend to fizzle into fashionable fads by year’s end while others stand the test of time and become attested favourites. This year, there’s a lot to love about the latest interior trends because they’re futureproof, chic, and perfectly aligned with our Aussie lifestyles.

We asked one of Queensland’s leading interior stylists, Brett Rundle, to share his interior trend predictions for 2024, plus, he reveals his favourite on-trend features of our latest Mater Prize Home lottery No. 311.

2024 Trends

What interior trends will we see pop up in 2024?

“One of the most significant trends gaining momentum in the last few years is the use of more sustainable materials and finishes, which will continue to flourish in 2024. This Mater Prize Home incorporates some beautiful repurposed timbers, both carved and natural, and fabrics that incorporate recycled materials. This push to include more earth-friendly choices in buildings and homes has become a positive trend that is more than just a passing fad.

Less of a trend and more of an Australian mainstay, Modern Coastal continues to be a favourite interior style, especially for homes within close vicinity to the beach like our Minyama prize home.”

Modern Coastal style

How have you embraced the Modern Coastal trend in our latest prize home?

“The Modern Coastal style of this home has been achieved firstly through the colour scheme. A rich blue used with a monochromatic palette provides a nod toward the home’s waterside location. This, with the use of textures, stripes and custom artworks in the bedrooms and hallway, continue the nautical theme, while select boldly modern pieces throughout are juxtaposed against the more classic style of the home.”

Waterfront Location

How has the prize home‘s waterfront location inspired its design?

“The location has been cleverly incorporated into the design of this light, bright property. The wide entry leads guests directly to the main kitchen, dining and living room with its captivating and uncompromised views through a fantastic glass boundary fence. A central double-height section adds another dimension to this already generous space, together with the walls and trims in a vivid crisp white—all of which help accentuate both the beautiful timber floors and the natural light that filters into the home.”

The styling inspiration was partly taken from the location, too. The rich blue used on select furnishings and accents connect with the water, while also tying in with the custom kitchen cabinetry. The light timbers and fabrics used also relate to the surrounding trees, parks and nearby beaches.”

Greenery

Why is greenery just as impactful inside the home as it is outside?

“I’ve always been a huge promoter of plants inside the home. Not only do they add those beautiful natural pops of green, but they also purify the air and in some cases actually remove toxins from the synthetic and volatile compounds found in today’s built environments. Finding the perfect location in the home may take some adjustments, but once you find that right spot where the plant is happy, it should thrive. For the simple task of a weekly watering, studies have found that plants may help to reduce stress, boost productivity, help manage allergies and improve mental health overall.”

Breakfast Nook

What is your favourite feature in this house?

“If I had to pick just one, the built-in nook in the main living area would be my choice for my favourite spot. It could be used for so many things from entertaining friends and family, as a breakfast/dining nook, or just to relax with your feet up while you enjoy the outlook across the park to the river. It’s a truly unique bonus in this beautiful home.”

Pool

If you lived in this home, how would you spend your weekends here?

“As a gardener myself, I would love to spend time tending the ample gardens around the property—finishing off with a well-deserved dip in the lovely pool. The location of the home in Minyama is also very central to the best offerings on the Sunshine Coast: restaurants, shopping, beaches and waterways, while also being around a short 30-minute drive from the beauty of the surrounding hinterland areas—Montville, Maleny, Nambour, just to name a few. It offers the best of both worlds!”
