A fitting prize for our Cars for Cancer No.86 winner

Cf C86 Winner Lop Big

When Sharon, 58, was drawn as the Mater Cars for Cancer lottery No. 86 winner, little did she know just how fitting the prize was for her and her husband.

Sharon, having only signed up as a VIP in February was drawn as the lucky winner of both the 50 year anniversary Mustang Bullitt AND Triumph Bonneville T120 Black. PLUS, first prize included $100,000 in cash/gold bullion.

The winning call

Sharon and her bike-enthusiast husband, Peter were in Thailand at the time, on a holiday from their Tasmanian home. They missed the winning calls while out exploring.

“We returned to our accommodation and saw a number of missed calls! Unfortunately being 3 hours behind in Thailand on a Friday, we had to call back on Monday.”

“My husband in the meantime checked the Mater Foundation website and saw the winners were from our home town in Tassie. We had to wait all weekend before we could really confirm it all!”

“When I told our six children they were so thrilled for us – And very generously offered to help us drive our new wins home,” Sharon laughed.

Sharon’s husband is a keen racing enthusiast, having raced motorbikes his whole life.

“I was well and truly his favourite person once we found out what I had won!”

About Sharon

As for Sharon, her passion lies in staying active and most notably, swimming. Sharon is both a swimming team coach and an aquatic sport centre coordinator.
Not to mention, she will be swimming in the Australian Masters Games in Adelaide in October 2019!

The additional $100,000 in cash/gold bullion has gone towards Sharon’s passion, in helping to fund her trip to compete. She’s also generously been able to help the youngest member of the local swimming team to attend.

The Prize

Sharon and her husband have both decided to keep the bike and car. They had the bike transported directly to Tasmania, and the Mustang was delivered to Melbourne, where they drove their new car for the first time, all the way home.

“It all became real when we saw the car and bike for the first time. We thought, ‘We have actually won!’”

We are thrilled to have Sharon and her husband as our Mater Cars for Cancer winners.

“It really goes to show, people really do win and it’s such a surprise to have won so suddenly after signing up.”
