For a house to feel like home, you need more than just four walls. Even high-end features like a butler’s pantry, master ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, and a stunning al fresco area are nice, but they’re not what make you feel at home. That’s where Queensland interior stylist Brett Rundle comes in. He’s responsible for transforming our Mater Prize Homes into warm and welcoming abodes.

For our latest Mater Prize Home lottery No. 305, Brett decked out the home with modern neutral furniture to complement the light-drenched interior, along with calming accent colours through the decor for a humble sense of tranquillity. Finally, to match the stunning lush greenery outside, Brett blurred the lines between the inside and out with plenty of plants indoors. Each of the four bedrooms have been beautifully styled with their own personalities (which can easily be customised to suit your own family’s tastes with just a few personal items from home), and the entire home is completely styled and furnished throughout (valued at $168,900) so all you have to do is move in and start enjoying your new life on Bribie Island.

For an expert insight into Brett’s design choices, we sat down with the interior stylist to find out more about his favourite rooms in the home, his inspiration behind the interior styling, and his insider tips for where to spend your downtime when you live on Bribie Island.

How would you describe the look and feel of this prize home?

“This home presents airy, light-filled spaces throughout. With its beautiful, picturesque outlook from almost every room, it has a relaxed and ‘resort like’ feel from its interior and surroundings.”

305Furnishings

What was the inspiration behind your styling?

“I was inspired by the lush surrounding fauna and its vicinity to the coastline, so I added furnishings that kept close to these key ideas. A range of beautiful blues and soft yellows form the home’s colour palette. I opted for natural rattan, cane and timber for the key pieces, and paired them with hints of coastal closeness through the artwork, accessories and soft furnishings.”

Brett's Favourite Room

What’s your favourite room or feature in this Bribie Island house?

“I love the feeling of the double height lounge area—it’s relaxing and furnished in two distinct zones. There’s an area for lounging, and an opposite facing sitting area—its commanding viewpoint out across the pool and to the lake and golf course beyond is eye catching to say the least.”

Custom Sofas

What’s your favourite piece in the home?

“Both of the sofas—in the media and lounge room—were custom made in Brisbane to provide maximum seating and to fit the spaces exactly. The fabrics selected were chosen to reflect the different coloured sands encountered around Bribie Island, and I think they are standout pieces in both areas.”

Balcony

What’s your top spot in the home for relaxing?

“The top balcony off the main bedroom is just a magic spot to sit and take in the green vista presented in front of you. Sitting on the L-shaped outdoor sofa or in one of the wicker egg chairs is an ideal place to relax, unwind and watch either the leisurely golfers, the birdlife around the lake, or the groups of kangaroos that make morning and afternoon appearances around the property.”

Extras

What’s your favourite bonus extra in this home lottery?

“The $500,000 of cashable gold bullion with this home is a great bonus, and the BMW 3 Series Sport, but my heart skips a beat for the AMG GLC Mercedes SUV. Just the sound of its V8 biturbo engine gets the heart racing, and its interior! Pure luxury.”

Pool

If you lived in this home, how would you spend your weekends here?

“With Queensland’s perfect weather, and, if not out at one of Bribie’s many waterfront areas, the pool would be a favourite hangout for me. It’s a great size, quite shaded during the hottest parts of the day, and looks out to that beautiful body of water and trees encompassed by the golf course.”

What expert tips can you share for styling at home?

“In your own home, a good tip is to always consider how something is going to fit into your space. A too mismatched, too eclectic mix can sometimes present as having no logic or reason behind it, and can be subconsciously uncomfortable to visitors, so always think about how things will complement and go together. The colours you choose also make a difference. If used as a scheme throughout, colour can help the transition from room to room appear seamless, deliberate and belonging to a thought-out design.”
