What to do on Bribie Island

Bribie Island, or Boorabee as the indigenous people know it, is a stunning place to share with your friends and family and we have the perfect house in which to do just that. The house on offer for the Mater Prize Home Lottery has so many bedrooms that you will never be short of space for visitors and all of its five bedrooms have an ensuite. There is also a study, multiple car parking options, a games room and conservatorium to enjoy. The stunning outdoor entertainment area is located next to your very own pool, and a private pontoon completes the package. What more could you want?

The Bribie Island lifestyle

It could take a lifetime to get bored of all the activities you could do in your very own home and property if you were to win this house but should you occasionally wish to venture out the front door, there is also plenty to do on Bribie Island itself. Bribe Island is one of the showpieces of Moreton Bay and the lifestyle here is relaxed and easy going. So how do you decide what to do first? Here are our top five tips for activities on Bribie!

Boating and fishing

Boating is undoubtedly a huge feature of the Bribie lifestyle and no trip to the island would be complete without a voyage through the natural wonder of the Pumicestone Passage. There are plenty of tour options available such as the renowned Bribie Island Ferryman, which offers a running commentary while you are taking in the sights. Boating around Bribie and the wider Moreton Bay region offers the opportunity to see numerous marine creatures including dolphins and dugongs. Couldn’t you be tempted by the opportunity to take a sunset cruise or enjoy a gorgeous lunch cruise while taking in the magnificent views over the Glass House Mountains?

There are several boat ramps around the island if you are interested in taking your own boat out and there is also the option of hiring various kinds of vessels. One of the most well known ways to get out on the water in this area is the famous BBQ Boats. Hiring one of these boats is easy and you can cook up your catch on board – dart, bream and whiting all abound around the island so it shouldn’t be difficult to enjoy a great day out complete with dinner when the fish are biting.

Beaches, swimming and water sports

The word beach is synonymous with the way of life on Bribie Island. From surf beaches to sheltered spots perfect for the whole family, Bribie has an option that will suit you and your loved ones perfectly. A particular favourite would have to be Woorim, which stretches for over 30 kilometres so there is plenty of room for everyone. There are also numerous dog friendly beaches if you are bringing your pets with you, including the local’s favourite of Red Beach, which links the surf at Woorim to the serenity of Bongaree. Every water sport imaginable is catered for on Bribie, with locations ideal for paddle boarding, surfing, jet skis or kayaking dotted all around the island. There is gear rental available too so trying out something new is easy!

Adventure sports

It is fair to say that the lifestyle on Bribie Island is primarily idyllic, relaxing and serene, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t also cater for adrenaline junkies. There are some fantastic options for the more adventurous among us, including helicopter tours over the island and wider Moreton Bay region that can be customised to suit your own interests and comfort level. There is also the opportunity to take on a tandem sky dive – how stunning would those views be as you came in to land? Bribie is home to some fantastic four wheel drive tracks too, taking in the endless coastal scenery and secluded beaches. You can even camp at some of those amazing spots, but lets face it you are not going to want to go camping when you have your very own resort style home to get back too!

Hiking

If you prefer to enjoy your views at a slightly less hair-raising pace, the hiking on Bribie Island will gladden your heart. Bribie has nearly 56 square kilometres of national park, which offers hikers everything from bush trails to sand dunes, from short strolls to testing hikes for more experienced walkers. The hiking gives you the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery as well as taking in some of the local wildlife all at your own pace.

Hiking on Bribie gives you a great opportunity to do a little bird watching too as there are many endangered birds that frequent the island’s lagoons and shores. It is also possible to occasionally spot dolphins from some of the shoreline walks. That would certainly make the friends back home a little jealous! Couple the views and wildlife with the gorgeous wildflowers that appear in the spring all over Bribie and you could probably tempt even the most reluctant exerciser out for a stroll.

Eating and drinking

The fantastic bars, cafes and restaurants of Bribie Island are certainly part of what makes this such a special location. There are plenty of options to choose from and we are very confident that there will be something that suits everyone’s tastes. Sushi, Italian, Indian, fantastic cafes and obviously outstanding seafood are just some of the choices you have.

The local institution of the Sandstone Point Hotel is also a must visit. This historic hotel has been the scene of many fantastic musical performances over the years and also plays host to lots of fabulous local events, such as the annual Strawberry Festival. There is a great bistro on site at the Hotel and obviously it is also a fantastic place for a refreshing drink or two while enjoying the gorgeous views that are everywhere on Bribie.
