“During the first six months of opening, Mater’s Pregnancy Assessment Centre has had more than 10 000 presentations from expecting mothers and helped thousands of women.”

Dr Mike Beckmann, Mothers, Babies and Women’s Health Services Medical Director

After years in the making, in 2017 Mater opened Queensland’s first 24-hour Pregnancy Assessment Centre. This centre is changing the way care is provided to women from across Queensland who are experiencing pregnancy-related complications.

The purpose-built centre, located in Mater Mothers’ Hospital at South Brisbane, is there to give women access to immediate, specialised obstetric care. The centre’s ‘always open’ approach can support any women experiencing concerns from day one of her pregnancy, to six weeks after her baby is born. No other pregnancy service in Queensland can offer this peace of mind.

Tebony, a woman who has had multiple pregnancy complications and is yet to have a healthy baby of her own, knows just how special the centre is. “Knowing there is a specialised facility at Mater that is open to everyone 24 hours 7 days a week—no matter where you come from—gives me so much comfort. It will be an invaluable service for any expecting mother.”

More than $1 million was donated by generous fundraisers like you, through Mater Foundation, to ensure this project became a reality.
