“It’s actually possible to win—it’s real, it happens!”

When Rebecca signed up as a Mater Prize Home VIP at her local shopping centre in August 2017, never in her wildest dreams did she actually anticipate winning a house and joining a long list of Mater Prize Home winners.

“Being a VIP seemed like a win-win! I saw it as a good opportunity to give back to Mater. And also an opportunity to win a house,” Rebecca joyfully recalled.

After receiving tickets for Mater Prize Home lottery No. 277 in the mail, Rebecca taped the brochure up in her house. She told her three young kids, “This is our beautiful new home!”. Boasting four bedrooms, two outdoor pavilions and a sparkling pool, the luxurious Bribie Island home was a world away from Rebecca’s then reality. It was also valued at a staggering $1,813,900!

“I never dreamed of owning my own house”

Believing her Mum’s wishful statement, Rebecca’s daughter told her teachers that she was moving to Bribie Island, convinced she would be living in the home on the brochure. Only a few short weeks later, this proclamation proved to be a real possibility for the family.

On Friday 29 June, whilst at work as a Payroll Officer, Rebecca noticed a number of missed calls on her phone. “I assumed there was an issue with my direct-debit so I called back as soon as I could,” said Rebecca. When the true reason for the call was revealed, Rebecca was lost for words. She fondly recalled, “I couldn’t believe it, I had the phone on loudspeaker for my colleagues to hear, to make sure it was true”.

“The Mater Prize Home lottery has changed our lives but it also changes other people’s lives”.

As a $30 Mater Prize Home VIP Club member, Rebecca also won $55,000 worth of gold bullion and has plans to buy her first ever new car. “My current car is 23 years old so it’s come at a great time!” said Rebecca. For now, Rebecca isn’t sure what she’ll do with her win, but she’s grateful that she now has options which will undoubtedly change the trajectory of her and her young family’s lives forever.
