Meet Aaron—a Mater Prize Home winner!
For Aaron, the call that would change his life occurred when he was playing a round of golf with his mates.
The 42-year-old surveyor and father of one from Stockton, NSW was the lucky winner of Mater Prize Home lottery No. 305—a $2.5 million Bribie Island prize home package. Along with the stunning fully furnished home, Aaron also won two luxury cars, a golf cart and two sets of clubs, jet ski, and $500,000 in cashable gold bullion.
Aaron had been buying tickets in Mater Prize Home for a good few years, but the fact that this house backed onto the Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club was the main draw card for the keen golfer.
“Out of all of them [prize homes], I was showing my friends and said, oh, look at this—I'm going to win and they just laughed it off,” he said. “It’s got the golf buggy and everything, it's on a golf course!”
Draw day arrived and as the day wore on, Aaron resigned himself to the fact that he may not have won the prize after all.
“Come about 12pm, I went, oh well, I didn't win me that house on the golf course. And so I went and played golf.”
“And then I got a phone call...by the end of it, the hairs on the back of my neck started to stand up and I’m thinking, ‘she’s not going to tell me I’ve won this thing is she?’ and fair enough, she just said you’ve won first prize!”
“I couldn't stop shaking. I couldn't finish golf. I went, ‘look, we're going home, let’s go’. Yeah, we went straight to the pub.”
Aaron received the keys to his new home in February and said that he’ll be keeping it for now to enjoy as a holiday home with his family.
