Joe* is a family man who makes a living working in the transport industry. On Wednesday 19 May, he got a call that changed his life.

Joe was working on the road when he took the call from Yvonne from the Mater Lotteries team, telling him he’d won first prize. “You’re joking!” Joe exclaimed.

Joe had just won the choice between:

The Land prize – A Ford Ranger FX4 MAX, PLUS a Jayco Outback Expanda, PLUS $100,000 in cashable gold bullion.

Or

The Sea Prize – A Ford Ranger FX4 MAX, PLUS a Bar Crusher 615BR boat, PLUS $95,000 in cashable gold bullion.

After taking in the news, Joe* needed some time to let it sink in, celebrated with his wife and two kids and most importantly, choose which prize option he’d prefer.

Joe decided to choose the Land prize. He said it’s all really starting to sink in. “I firstly thought the call was about updating payment details. I was honestly so shocked, gob smacked… I feel great, it’s been a weight off my shoulders. With COVID I hadn’t seen my family for close to a year. I can go home to see my family now. This money is freeing me up to focus more on what’s important to me. It’s been a real godsend.”

Joe plans to put some of the winnings towards paying off some of the mortgage on a house and helping to set his kids up to have the best possible start in life.

When we asked Joe what prompted him to start supporting Mater Cars for Cancer back in 2015, he told us, “a friend who’s a Ford nut like me, introduced me to the lottery. I lost my mum to breast cancer and thought it was a great cause. Ever since, I’ve been buying two tickets a month with the hope of winning a Ford while also helping a good cause.”
