Meet the winners of Mater Prize Home lottery No. 288
We caught up with our Mater Prize Home 288 winners, Tim and Megan, to ask them how they were feeling two weeks after winning their beautiful new Hope Island home.
They received the news about their win a couple of days before Tim was due to make a long-haul trip interstate. Tim told us, “Five hours into the trip to Victoria, I found out that there was bad weather ahead and that was enough for me; I turned around and headed home again. Yes, you buy tickets to support a good cause, but you don’t really expect to win first prize, so I really needed to come home and process the news and make plans with my family”
“It’s still a bit surreal, but spending Mothers’ Day weekend at the house with our parents, brought home the reality – there are definitely still days when we kind of have to remind ourselves that financially, our lives will change for the better going forward”, Tim said.
You could say that supporting Mater is in Tim’s DNA – Tim, his Mother and his Uncle are all long-term Mater Prize Home supporters. In a strange twist of fate, Tim also told us that many years ago, his grandfather and great uncle used to work as landscapers for Mater Prize Home! “For years I have said to my Mum that I was going to win one of the Mater Prize Homes; perhaps Grandad was looking out for me from above” Tim said.
So, what does the future hold for Tim, Megan and their kids? “We have decided to sell the house – I feel a bit bad about it because we love it, the kids especially, but we have a pretty solid base here in Brisbane and we have to be close to our business. And of course, there are quite a few things around our home that we would like to update. We’ll be debt free which is incredible. We had a trip planned with the kids in our caravan so once these restrictions are lifted, we’ll probably do that. We are also thinking about purchasing an investment property closer to home, so we can manage it ourselves. We are so thankful, and I think we are proof that anyone can win. I think most of my friends have now signed up to be Mater VIP’s too”, said Tim.
We are thankful too Tim and Megan – without the support of people like you and your family, Mater wouldn’t be able to achieve the incredible things that we do.
