The 6.2 litre, supercharged HEMI Hellcat V8 is taking a bow and exiting the building, replaced by a turbocharged inline six cylinder that while more efficient, is also much less powerful than the 553kw, 882Nm monster in the TRX’s engine bay. That’s enough grunt to propel the three tonne TRX Final Edition towards the horizon with surprising enthusiasm, clocking a 0-100km/h sprint in only 4.5 seconds.
While the TRX Final Edition will peel off sub-five seconds every time it’s asked to, the driving dynamics belie the RAM’s size, with coil springs all ‘round, massive Bilstein adaptive shockers and a ‘Baja’ drive mode, which softens the suspension and keeps the steering sharp for some super fun times on the dirty stuff. Pulling back onto the bitumen, a press of a button ties it all down and makes it all sensible again; turning the HEMI Hellcat-powered RAM TRX Final Edition into a pussycat – exactly what the winner of Mater Cars for Cancer lottery No. 124 will need to pull the Wildtrail Caravans 21-footer that comes with the RAM.
